Electricity Rates Drop in Negros for May: Relief for Households and Small Businesses
Starting this May 15, 2025 (May 15 to July 15 cycle only) , families and small business owners across Negros have a reason to smile. Negros Power has announced a significant reduction in electricity rates for the month, offering much-needed relief to households and MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises) like mine. This decrease is more than just a number- it’s a real boost that helps ease monthly expenses and supports growth.
What the Rate Drop Means for You and Me
For an average household or small business consuming around 200 kWh per month, the residential electricity rate has dropped from Php 12.3563 per kWh in April to Php 11.6958 per kWh this May. That’s a savings of about Php 132.10 for the month.
For families, this means extra money for groceries, education, or savings. For small businesses like mine, it means more funds to invest in supplies, improve services, or even hire additional help. Every peso saved counts, especially in today’s challenging economic climate.
Why Are Rates Lower This Month?
Negros Power attributes the rate reduction to several key factors that have lowered the cost of electricity generation and transmission:
-
A Php 1.1585 per kWh decrease in prices from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), reflecting more affordable power supply.
-
A Php 0.2085 per kWh reduction in the Emergency Power Supply Agreement (EPSA) with Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC).
-
Lower transmission charges, including a Php 2.82 per kW cut in Power Delivery Service (PDS) fees and a Php 29.31 per kW drop in Ancillary Service costs.
These combined savings have allowed Negros Power to pass on more affordable rates to consumers throughout Central Negros.
Updated Rates for May 2025 ( Covering May 15 to June 15 cycle)
-
Residential: Php 11.6958 per kWh
-
Low Voltage: Php 11.7575 per kWh
-
High Voltage: Php 10.7054 per kWh
The Impact on MSMEs Like Mine
Electricity is one of the biggest overhead costs for small businesses. This rate drop is a welcome relief that helps MSMEs manage cash flow better and invest more confidently in growth. For me, it means I can allocate funds toward improving my business without sacrificing quality or service. It’s a reminder that even small changes in expenses can have a big impact on sustainability and success.
Looking Ahead
Negros Power’s commitment to transparency and responsible energy sourcing continues to benefit every home and business in the region. While this rate reduction is for the month of May, it reflects a positive trend toward making electricity more affordable and accessible.
For all of us-households and entrepreneurs alike-this is a moment to breathe a little easier and focus on what matters most: building a brighter, more resilient future.
