Negros Power’s Proactive Maintenance: Temporary Power Interruption to Prevent Major Outage in Bacolod City

Source: Negros Power

Negros Power recently detected a critical overheating issue on a key 69 kV switch connecting the NGCP substation to the Burgos and Mt. View substations. Thermal scans revealed a dangerous temperature of 316°C-more than four times the normal operating heat, signaling an imminent risk of failure that could have caused a widespread and prolonged power outage affecting thousands of residents and businesses in Bacolod City.

To prevent this potential blackout and ensure the safety of their linemen during repairs, Negros Power has scheduled a temporary power interruption from 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM on May 11,2025. While any outage can cause inconvenience, this brief interruption is essential to conduct hotspot corrections safely and effectively. Addressing the problem now avoids a larger, unexpected outage that would disrupt daily life and economic activities for a much longer.

Why This Temporary Power Interruption Is Necessary

Negros Power understands the inconvenience a power outage causes, but this planned interruption is critical for the safety of both the linemen and the community. The overheating switch posed a serious risk of failure that could have resulted in an unplanned, prolonged blackout affecting thousands of homes and businesses.

By acting now and performing hotspot corrections during low-demand early morning hours, Negros Power is preventing a far more disruptive outage. This proactive measure ensures the continued reliability and safety of Bacolod’s power supply, protecting the community’s daily life and economic activities.

Negros Power sincerely thanks all affected customers for their patience and cooperation as they carry out this vital maintenance work. We can build a stronger, more resilient power system for Bacolod City.
