Negros Power’s Election Readiness
Ensuring Reliable Power for a Crucial Day
As the May 12, 2025 National and Local Elections draw near, I’ve been paying close attention to how Negros Power is preparing to keep the electricity flowing smoothly throughout this important event. I’ve seen that the company goes above and beyond with their “Oplan Halalan 2025” contingency plan, strongly supporting our democratic process.
Covering Key Areas in Negros Occidental
Negros Power’s service area includes Bacolod City, Talisay, Silay, Bago, Murcia, and Don Salvador Benedicto. Knowing how essential electricity is to polling centers, canvassing hubs, and election tech facilities, I appreciate their proactive measures to secure a stable power supply for thousands of voters and election workers.
Infrastructure Upgrades and Preventive Maintenance
What impressed me most are the concrete steps Negros Power has taken. They have rehabilitated the Bacolod-Silay 69kV transmission line and energized an additional 18 MVA transformer at Alijis. These upgrades aren’t just technical improvements- they directly contribute to more reliable power during the election.
Additionally, the company has conducted hotspot inspections and preventive maintenance on transformers and distribution lines to minimize outage risks. They’ve also activated satellite warehouses stocked with materials and equipment for quick repairs, and prepared three standby generators as backup power sources.
Careful Monitoring and Load Management
I find it reassuring that Negros Power is actively monitoring power loads, keeping them below 70% capacity to avoid overloading during the busy election day. This level of detailed planning shows they are ready to handle both expected demand and unexpected challenges.
Around-the-Clock Election Day Operations
On election day, Negros Power will run a dedicated Command Center 24/7, with 37 field crews and 20 roving teams strategically deployed to respond quickly to any power issues. Their close coordination with the Department of Energy and the Commission on Elections will ensure smooth communication and rapid incident resolution.
Commitment Beyond Election Day
What stands out to me is their commitment even after the polls close. Teams will remain on standby for two days to support election-related facilities, and the company will join clean-up efforts to remove election posters and materials from public spaces. This shows genuine care for the community and the environment.
Words from the Chief Operations Officer
Engr. Bernard Bailey Del Castillo, Negros Power’s Chief Operations Officer, shared the company’s dedication and readiness. He emphasized that all maintenance and upgrades were completed well in advance, and their teams will be on hand from early morning until ballot counting finishes. A dry run on May 10 will test their systems and communication to ensure everything is seamless on election day.
A Personal Reflection
From my perspective, Negros Power’s preparations go beyond technical readiness-they reflect a heartfelt commitment to supporting our communities and safeguarding the democratic process. It’s encouraging to see such dedication, knowing that the foundation of our elections- the power that keeps everything running- will be secure.
As a resident and observer, I feel confident that voters can focus on casting their ballots without worrying about power interruptions. This gives me hope for a smooth, fair, and successful election where every voice is heard and every vote counts.
