Bago City Recognizes Negros Power’s Commitment to Community Recovery
The City Government of Bago, through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), has honored Negros Power with a Certificate of Appreciation for its unwavering commitment and outstanding service in restoring electricity following the devastation caused by Typhoon Tino.
Presented during the Pasidungog kag Pagkilala ceremony on July 1, 2026, at the Community Center in Barangay Poblacion, the award recognizes the power distributor’s invaluable contribution to the city’s emergency response and recovery efforts. Despite damaged infrastructure and hazardous working conditions, Negros Power mobilized its personnel immediately after the typhoon, working tirelessly to restore electricity and help affected communities regain access to an essential service.

A Recognition Rooted in Bago City’s Vision of Resilience
The recognition reflects more than the restoration of power—it embodies the City Government of Bago’s vision of building a resilient and disaster-ready community under the leadership of Mayor Marina “Mayette” Javellana-Yao. Throughout her administration, the mayor has championed programs that strengthen disaster preparedness, promote collaboration among government agencies and private institutions, and ensure that communities are equipped to recover quickly from emergencies.
By recognizing Negros Power, the city affirms the importance of strong partnerships in achieving this vision. Reliable electric service is a cornerstone of disaster recovery, enabling hospitals, evacuation centers, communication networks, water systems, businesses, schools, and government offices to resume operations. The award acknowledges that the company’s swift response became a critical component of Bago City’s broader recovery strategy.

Powering Recovery Beyond Restoring Electricity
For communities affected by Typhoon Tino, the restoration of electricity represented more than the return of lights. It signaled the reopening of livelihoods, the resumption of essential public services, and the restoration of a sense of normalcy for thousands of families.
Negros Power’s emergency response teams worked around the clock to assess damaged facilities, repair critical infrastructure, and safely energize affected areas in the shortest possible time. Their dedication demonstrated that modern electric utilities play a vital role not only in delivering power but also in strengthening community resilience during times of crisis.
The recognition from the City Government of Bago also underscores the growing role of Negros Power as a dependable partner in local development. Beyond providing reliable electricity, the company has consistently worked alongside local government units during emergencies, recognizing that resilient communities are built through cooperation, shared responsibility, and responsive public service. The award serves as a testament to the trust that local governments place in Negros Power—not only as a power distributor but as an active partner in safeguarding the welfare of the communities it serves.
A Tribute to the Men and Women Behind the Restoration
Accepting the recognition on behalf of the company was Engr. Leomel Tambanillo, Assistant Vice President for Planning and Business Operations of Negros Power, who expressed his gratitude to the City Government of Bago for acknowledging the dedication of the company’s workforce.
“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition from the City Government of Bago. This award belongs to every Negros Power employee who worked tirelessly, often under difficult and hazardous conditions, to restore electricity and help communities recover after Typhoon Tino. We sincerely thank our local government partners for their trust and collaboration. This recognition inspires us to continue strengthening our emergency response capabilities and remain steadfast in our commitment to delivering reliable power service, especially during times when our communities need us the most,” Engr. Tambanillo said.
He emphasized that the recognition belongs to every lineman, engineer, field crew, and support personnel who demonstrated professionalism, courage, and dedication while working under challenging conditions to bring electricity back to affected communities.
Strengthening Partnerships for Safer, More Resilient Communities
The recognition further highlights the strong partnership between Negros Power and the City Government of Bago in advancing disaster resilience and public service excellence. It reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that essential services remain responsive before, during, and after emergencies.
For Mayor Javellana-Yao’s administration, recognizing organizations that contribute significantly to disaster preparedness and recovery reinforces the city’s commitment to cultivating a culture of resilience through collaboration. For Negros Power, the award serves as both an honor and a responsibility—to continue investing in emergency preparedness, modernizing its response capabilities, and delivering reliable power service that communities can depend on when they need it most.
As natural disasters continue to challenge communities across the country, partnerships such as that between Bago City and Negros Power demonstrate that recovery is most effective when government and the private sector work hand in hand. More than restoring electricity, Negros Power continues to help restore hope, confidence, and the momentum for communities to rebuild stronger after every storm.
