Negros Power Marks 2nd Year with Environmental Cleanup Drive in Murcia
MURCIA, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL — Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) marked its second anniversary by turning its celebration into an environmental action, bringing employees and community partners together for a river cleanup at Prk. Paghidaet, Barangay Salvacion, Murcia, on August 4, 2026.
Carrying the anniversary theme “Stronger Together,” the activity highlighted Negros Power’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community involvement beyond its role as an electricity provider.
River Cleanup Highlights Negros Power’s Anniversary Celebration
Rather than limiting its second anniversary activities to an internal celebration, Negros Power chose to engage with the community through an environmental initiative.
The river cleanup provided an opportunity for employees, government representatives, local officials, and environmental advocates to work together in addressing waste and maintaining the cleanliness of a local waterway.
Employees and Community Partners Join Environmental Effort
The early-morning activity brought together Negros Power personnel and representatives from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Municipality of Murcia, Barangay Salvacion, and The Guardians of the Environment.
The participation of different organizations demonstrated the importance of collaboration in addressing environmental concerns at the community level.
Negros Power COO Leads Murcia Cleanup Activity
Leading the initiative was Negros Power Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Engr. Joe-Mel Zaporteza, together with representatives of partner agencies and organizations.
Also supporting the activity was Barangay Salvacion Captain Hon. Jenny Jimenea, along with members of the barangay community and other participating stakeholders.
Their involvement reinforced the role of local leadership and community partnerships in sustaining environmental programs.
Volunteers Help Restore the River and Surrounding Area
Volunteers worked together to collect various types of waste found along the river and its surrounding areas. The collected materials were properly gathered and disposed of as part of the cleanup effort.
The activity helped improve the immediate condition of the waterway while supporting efforts to protect aquatic ecosystems and the surrounding environment.

Environmental Protection as a Shared Responsibility
More than a one-day cleanup, the initiative highlighted the idea that environmental protection cannot be accomplished by one organization alone.
The participation of Negros Power employees, government offices, community leaders, environmental groups, and local stakeholders showed how collective action can contribute to more sustainable communities.
“Stronger Together” in Action
The river cleanup reflected the spirit behind Negros Power’s second anniversary theme, “Stronger Together.”
The theme emphasizes the value of partnerships and cooperation among the private sector, government, community organizations, environmental advocates, and residents.
For Negros Power, the anniversary activity demonstrated that being part of the community also means participating in initiatives that address environmental and social concerns.
Beyond Reliable Electricity: Supporting Local Communities
As Negros Power reaches its second year of operations, the company continues to position community engagement and environmental responsibility alongside its commitment to providing dependable electricity.
Initiatives such as the Murcia river cleanup provide opportunities for the company and its partners to contribute directly to the communities they serve.
Building a Cleaner and Greener Negros
The cleanup in Barangay Salvacion serves as a reminder that even localized environmental initiatives can become meaningful when communities work together.
Through continued collaboration with government agencies, environmental organizations, barangay leaders, and residents, Negros Power and its partners can help promote greater awareness of environmental stewardship across Negros.
As the company celebrates two years of service, the message remains clear: a cleaner and more sustainable Negros is a shared responsibility—and achieving it is stronger when communities work together.
