Roots of Hope Program: Negros Power Strengthens Farmers’ Livelihoods

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) marked its second anniversary not only by celebrating two years of service but also by giving back to the communities it serves through a meaningful agricultural initiative.

On August 25, 2026, the company carried out the Roots of Hope Program, a farmers’ livelihood support initiative held at Purok 18, Barangay Alangilan, Bacolod City. The program provided agricultural resources to the Alangilan Granada Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Farmers Association, Inc., helping local farmers strengthen their livelihood activities.

Roots of Hope Program Puts Farmers at the Heart of Community Development

The initiative provided a variety of vegetable seeds and seedlings that farmers can cultivate for food production and livelihood opportunities. These included different varieties of corn, balatong, okra, ampalaya, pipino, kalabasa, talong, tomato, bell pepper, and hot pepper.

Negros Power also donated crates and a canopy to help improve the farmers’ working environment and support their day-to-day agricultural activities.

Rather than being a one-time act of assistance, the initiative reflects the company’s effort to support livelihood development at the grassroots level. Providing farmers with productive resources can help create opportunities for sustainable income while contributing to stronger local food production.

The Roots of Hope Program underscores the importance of empowering communities with resources that can grow into long-term opportunities. Among those present were Negros Power Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Engr. Joe-Mel Zaporteza, Barangay Alangilan Captain Roy Retiza, Barangay Granada Captain Armando Vito, Negros Power employees, and members of the farmers’ association led by its president, Renato Parohinog.

Their participation reflected the importance of collaboration among the private sector, local communities, and local government in creating programs that address livelihood and development needs.

The initiative forms part of Negros Power’s second anniversary celebration, anchored on the theme “Growing with the communities we serve.”
