A Meaningful Return After Many Years | Asian Alcohol Corporation

Some training sessions become memorable because of the topic. Others become unforgettable because of the people, the memories, and the journey connected to them.

Today’s teambuilding and organizational learning workshop with Asian Alcohol Corporation was one of those moments for me.

Many years ago, I used to conduct a series of trainings for Asian Alcohol Corporation during its earlier operations in Pulupandan, Negros Occidental. I also handled sessions for Total Bulk Corporation in Bacolod City. Through the years, I facilitated numerous teambuilding workshops, supervisory trainings, communication seminars, and organizational development sessions for the company.

If my memory serves me right, I believe I even witnessed two closures of the company through the years. That is why hearing that Asian Alcohol Corporation had reopened under a new management last year honestly surprised me.

But perhaps life really has a beautiful way of reopening doors, reconnecting people, and continuing unfinished stories.

Call it timing.
Call it fate.
Or perhaps, divine intervention.

From an HR Learning Session to a New Opportunity

Recently, I was invited by Intellicare to conduct a learning session attended by HR managers from different companies. My topic focused on understanding and engaging Generation Z employees in today’s workplace.

It was only a short talk, but I suppose the session somehow created an impact because shortly afterward, three companies immediately contacted me and expressed their interest in having me conduct training programs for their organizations.

One of those companies was Asian Alcohol Corporation.

Honestly, I felt genuinely happy.

Not only because they remembered me after all these years, but because it felt like reconnecting with an old chapter of my professional journey.

Their HR representative, Ms. Nikki Monteveros, shared with me that when my name was mentioned to management and longtime employees, many still had good recollections of me as their trainer and speaker from the past.

Well… at least they remembered me positively, I suppose. Hopefully that means they survived all my jokes, stories, and activities many years ago. Hahaha.

Familiar Faces and Heartwarming Memories | Asian Alcohol Corporation

What made me smile even more was discovering that the same employee who used to pick me up for trainings years ago was also the same person assigned to fetch me today.

During our trip, he casually told me in Hiligaynon:

“Mayu kay si Sir Jojo, indi kita tuyhon.”

Translated loosely, it means:
“It’s good that it’s Sir Jojo. We won’t fall asleep.”

Now imagine the pressure that immediately gave me — especially knowing I was about to facilitate a workshop attended by almost a hundred participants inside a warm training hall. Hahaha.

The workshop was held at Gudleaves Resort in Valladolid, Negros Occidental, a beautiful venue owned by the Gugudan family. Interestingly, one of the sons became one of my loyal customers during the pandemic because both of us became certified “plantitos” during those difficult times.

Life really creates unexpected connections.

A Challenging Yet Fulfilling Team Building Workshop | Asian Alcohol Corporation

The workshop itself was both fulfilling and challenging.

The participants numbered close to one hundred employees — yes, almost a hundred people.

Although the session hall was airconditioned, the heat and humidity were still very intense. Perhaps it was the summer heat of Negros Occidental refusing to cooperate with seminars.

Still, despite the temperature, the energy inside the room remained positive and encouraging.

Upon entering the hall, I immediately saw familiar faces from years ago. One of them was Sir Joery Yson, a former employee I remembered from the past who now serves as the plant manager. We had a wonderful conversation before the session started.

Seeing former employees still serving the company somehow felt comforting.

Even more touching was noticing many of the longtime employees voluntarily occupying the front seats during the workshop.

For speakers and trainers, that usually means something.

It often means they are comfortable with you.
Or at the very least, they know you are not boring enough to avoid. Hahaha.

Blending Generations Inside the Workplace | Asian Alcohol Corporation

One of the things I appreciated most during the session was seeing a strong combination of young professionals, technical staff, engineers, longtime employees, and supervisors participating together.

Many of the younger attendees were part of Generation Z and the millennial workforce, while some participants belonged to Generation X.

The combination was beautiful to witness.

I emphasized during the workshop that organizations become stronger when different generations stop competing and start learning from one another.

Older employees bring:

  • experience,
  • wisdom,
  • resilience,
  • and institutional memory.

Meanwhile, younger employees contribute:

  • fresh perspectives,
  • innovation,
  • adaptability,
  • and digital familiarity.

The challenge for companies today is not simply hiring people.

The real challenge is learning how to blend generations together while building communication, trust, cooperation, and respect.

Key Topics Discussed During the Seminar

The workshop focused heavily on:

  • communication and connection,
  • trust and support systems,
  • collaboration and teamwork,
  • overcoming silo mentality,
  • effective communication flow,
  • workplace relationships,
  • active participation,
  • and building a stronger organizational culture.

I also discussed some of the common challenges affecting organizations today, including:

  • poor communication flow,
  • lack of trust,
  • weak collaboration,
  • disconnected departments,
  • and generational misunderstandings.

More importantly, we explored practical ways employees can become stronger team players through:

  • active listening,
  • accountability,
  • emotional maturity,
  • adaptability,
  • supportiveness,
  • and cooperation.

One of the core messages I emphasized was this:

“Strong teams are not built by position or title, but by trust, respect, communication, and the willingness to grow together.”

I reminded participants that successful organizations are never powered by individual talent alone. Great companies grow because people choose collaboration over competition.

Giving My All Despite the Heat

Honestly, I truly gave my all during the session to sustain everyone’s attention and energy.

At one point, I think I already lost enough sweat to qualify as an additional hydration station for the participants. Hahaha.

Originally, I planned several outdoor activities, but the heat outside the hall was even worse. Because of that, I immediately adjusted and conducted most activities indoors instead.

That is one thing years of training experience have taught me:
Flexibility matters.

Sometimes the best seminars are not the ones that follow the original plan perfectly, but the ones that successfully adjust to the realities of the moment while still delivering meaningful learning experiences.

A Young Leadership with a Promising Future | Asian Alcohol Corporation

I was also honored that the company’s young General Manager, Engr. Andiford Chua, attended the workshop and personally awarded my certificate afterward.

Seeing a young leader actively participating in employee development gives me hope for the future of the company under its new generation of leadership.

And honestly, I sincerely pray for the continued success of Asian Alcohol Corporation under this renewed chapter of its operations.

Why Moments Like These Still Matter to Me

Despite years of teaching, conducting trainings, consulting for companies, blogging, and running creative businesses, I still genuinely enjoy moments like this.

I still enjoy:

  • conversations,
  • learning spaces,
  • organizational development,
  • and seeing people slowly become more engaged, reflective, and connected during workshops.

Perhaps this is why I continue studying, continue updating my knowledge, and continue accepting opportunities to teach and train.

Because learning never truly stops.

And growth should never stop either.

Thank You, Asian Alcohol Corporation

Today felt more than just another seminar.

It felt like reconnecting with an old chapter, witnessing a company rise again, and seeing both old and new generations trying to build something meaningful together once more.

To Asian Alcohol Corporation, thank you once again for the trust, the warm welcome, the memories, and the opportunity to share another learning experience with your team.

And to all the employees who actively participated despite the challenging heat inside the hall, thank you for your energy, openness, humor, and cooperation.

Hopefully…
nobody fell asleep. Hahaha.
