A New Beginning: Negros Power Brings Light to Underserved Communities
As 2024 comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the inspiring changes happening in Negros. This year has marked a significant shift for many communities that have long been without electricity. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Negros Power, these areas are finally stepping into a brighter future.
A Moment of Joy
On December 17th, I watched as residents in Sitio Bocboc, Barangay Concepcion, Talisay City, gathered to celebrate a moment they had eagerly anticipated. When the switch was flipped, they light-filled their homes for the first time. The cheers and laughter that erupted from the crowd were truly heartwarming. Twenty out of thirty-five households, who had lived in darkness for so long, were connected to the power grid. Even the rainy weather couldn’t dampen their spirits. One resident, Gina Tulis, expressed the overwhelming gratitude felt by many: “We lived in such darkness for so long. We are so grateful to Negros Power. They came to our area and brought us electricity. Now we have lights and everything we need.” Her words resonated deeply with everyone present, capturing the joy and relief of a community finally seeing their dreams come true.
Continuing the Celebration
A few days later, on December 20th, I observed another celebration in Purok 8, Barangay Alangilan, Bacolod City. Here, thirty-seven out of sixty-four households were also connected to the grid. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as community members and local officials celebrated this significant achievement.
Overcoming Obstacles
The journey to bring electricity to these communities was not without its challenges. In Purok Citrus, Barangay Bunga, Municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto, the Negros Power team faced rugged terrain as they trekked over a kilometer to reach forty-seven eager households waiting for power. The smiles on the faces of residents as they welcomed the team spoke volumes about how much this change meant to them. Mayor Lawrence Marxlen Dela Cruz shared in their joy: “We are so happy! The whole community is overjoyed. I am grateful to Negros Power for helping us achieve this dream.” His words highlighted that this initiative was about more than just electricity; it was about hope and progress for everyone involved.
A Commitment to Change
Engr. Bernard Bailey Del Castillo, Chief Operating Officer of Negros Power, expressed his satisfaction at seeing the happiness in these communities: “It is fulfilling to see our customers so happy. Our goal was to bring light to these Sitios before the year ends, and we have done it.” His commitment reassured everyone that more communities would soon benefit from similar projects. Roel Castro, President and CEO of Negros Power, reinforced this dedication: “We are committed to electrifying all residents in our area, no matter how remote.” His promise instilled hope that no one would be left behind in this journey toward progress.
A Heartwarming Reflection
Watching these events unfold has been truly inspiring. The electrification projects represent more than technical achievements; they showcase the power of compassion and community spirit. The joy radiating from these residents serves as a reminder that success is measured not only by numbers but also by the lives transformed through these efforts. As we move into 2025 with renewed hope and possibilities fueled by light, I am excited about what lies ahead for these communities in Negros. A new dawn has arrived—one filled with potential and driven by a strong sense of togetherness and resilience.
