Bacolod’s Garbage Woes: A Not-So-Super Dilemma
Dear Bacolod City Government,
In the heart of our beloved “Super City,” where glittering aspirations of being a premier destination abound, an unignorable problem exists – the unrelenting struggle with garbage. Oh, the irony! As business owners, we find ourselves grappling with the very basics – garbage collection. How can we boast of being a “super city” when our streets are marred by the unsightly remnants of daily life?
For years, Bacolodnons have danced with the ongoing predicament of delayed collection of garbage. Leaving our establishments adorned with the less-than-fragrant company of waste hardly aligns with the grandeur of a “super city” lifestyle. To think, no garbage collector has graced our vicinity (Alunan Avenue) since December – a silver lining, perhaps, as no one knocked for the customary “Christmas Aguinaldo” thingy. But let’s not digress into the realm of solicitations; instead, let’s focus on the bigger issue.
Bacolod’s Garbage Woes
This is a plea, a humble cry if you will. Garbage collection is a fundamental service owed to the people, a cornerstone upon which the grandiose dreams of a “super city” should be built. Imagine tourists strolling through our streets, enticed not only by the aroma of our local delicacies but also by the pristine cleanliness that envelops our community.
We understand that Bacolod may not boast grand tourist spots or expansive parks, but we sell something more precious – our food, hospitality, cleanliness (supposed to be), etc. However, this vision cannot be fully realized until we address the looming garbage issue. It’s disheartening to ponder the priorities of our city. A towering Christmas tree graced the grounds of our lovely City Hall last December, yet behind the sparkle lies the less-than-glamorous reality of uncollected waste.
Bacolod’s Garbage Woes
Amid our collective frustration, one burning question persists: Why do we find ourselves repeatedly dialing the concerned agency to report the non-collection of our garbage? Shouldn’t it be their solemn obligation to execute this task religiously, without prompting from exasperated citizens? The routine and timely disposal of waste should form a fundamental aspect of basic management concerns. It is a reflection not only of our city’s efficiency but also of the effectiveness of the services provided.
The garbage collectors seem to have a penchant for the prominent, leaving the outskirts (secondary roads) to drown in a sea of neglected rubbish. Our city deserves more than selective cleanliness; it deserves a comprehensive and efficient waste management program that leaves no corner untouched. Let us not merely claim the title of a “super city” – let us embody it through a clean, orderly, and well-managed environment.
Bacolod, we love you, and we yearn to witness your beauty untarnished. It’s time to prioritize the cleanliness that will truly make us a “super city” in the eyes of our residents and visitors alike. The solution is not just a plea; it’s a clarion call for action. Let’s rise above the garbage and step into the true brilliance of a Bacolod that shines from within.
