COMELEC and Negros Power Partner to Guarantee Stable Electricity During 2025 Elections
On April 7, 2025, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to ensure uninterrupted electricity during the 2025 National and Local Elections. This significant partnership was formalized at Negros Power’s headquarters, where Provincial Election Supervisor Atty attended it. Ian Lee M. Ananoria, Negros Power President and CEO Roel Z. Castro, and other key officials from both organizations.
The Purpose of the Partnership
This collaborative effort is designed to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process by guaranteeing a reliable power supply before, during, and after election day. Engr. Felgie C. Magla-oy, Systems Operation Manager of Negros Power, presented the Election Power Readiness Plan, which outlines comprehensive technical and operational measures to prevent any disruptions to the power grid. This plan ensures that all necessary systems are in place to maintain a consistent electricity supply, which is crucial for the smooth operation of voting machines and other election-related equipment.
Key Responsibilities and Initiatives
Under the terms of the MOA, COMELEC will provide essential election-related materials and updates, promote voter awareness, and support transparency and accountability efforts. This includes disseminating critical information to ensure voters are well-informed about the electoral process and their rights. Negros Power, in turn, has pledged to guarantee the reliability of its power distribution system, conduct proactive maintenance to prevent outages, clear potential obstructions, and deploy personnel to assist COMELEC on election day. This proactive approach will help mitigate any possible issues impacting the voting process.
Enhancing Voter Awareness
The collaboration also enables COMELEC to include voter information leaflets in Negros Power’s monthly billing statements, potentially reaching around 230,000 customers across Bacolod City, Talisay, Silay, Bago, and the municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto. This innovative approach leverages Negros Power’s extensive customer base to amplify voter education and awareness, ensuring that a broad audience is informed about the elections.
Commitment to Electoral Integrity
“This collaboration strengthens our shared commitment to protect the democratic process and deliver clean, honest, and credible elections,” said Atty. Ananoria highlighted the importance of this partnership in maintaining the integrity of the electoral system.
Negros Power President Roel Z. Castro expressed the company’s commitment to the agreement, stating, “We are fully prepared to ensure a reliable power supply throughout the entire election period. This is our way of contributing to a secure and credible electoral process, which is essential for the well-being of our community.”
Implementation and Financial Implications
The MOA will remain in effect until the 2025 National and Local Elections are completed. It was also emphasized that there are no budgetary implications for COMELEC under the agreement, ensuring that this partnership does not impose additional financial burdens on the electoral body.
