Negros Power Rate Reduction for February 2026

Negros Power Announces Significant Rate Reduction for February 2026

As a consumer, I felt genuine relief when I read the announcement. February brings not just another billing cycle, but real, measurable savings for thousands of families and businesses across Negros.

Negros Power confirmed a substantial electricity rate reduction for February 2026, a development that directly benefits residential users, employees, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). More than a technical adjustment, this rate drop translates into extra pesos in our pockets and renewed optimism about the future.

February 2026 Electricity Rates: Key Figures Consumers Should Know

The average residential electricity rate dropped to ₱11.44 per kWh, down from ₱13.10 per kWh in January.

That is a ₱1.66 per kWh decrease, which will be reflected in February bills.

For a household consuming around 200 kWh per month, this means approximately ₱322 in savings — a meaningful amount for everyday Filipino families.

Other February 2026 average rates:

  • Low Voltage (LV): ₱11.50/kWh

  • High Voltage (HV): ₱10.41/kWh

From my perspective, these numbers are not just statistics; they represent grocery money, school allowance, transportation fare, and a little more peace of mind.

Why Electricity Rates Went Down

The main driver of the reduction is the sharp decline in generation costs, particularly from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).

WESM prices dropped from ₱7.5031/kWh to ₱4.4872/kWh, a reduction of ₱3.0160/kWh.

This happened after the normalization and synchronization of power plants in the Visayas Grid, which improved supply and stabilized market prices.

In addition, Green Core Geothermal Inc. (GCGI) implemented a new 2026 base rate, lowering its charge by ₱0.3136/kWh.

Altogether, these adjustments resulted in a ₱1.4199 per kWh reduction in overall generation charge, more than enough to offset slight increases in transmission and other pass-through charges.

Impact on Households: More Room in the Family Budget

As a homeowner and bill payer, I immediately feel the effect of this reduction.

Lower electricity rates mean:

  • More budget for food and essentials

  • Extra allowance for children’s school needs

  • Small savings that can be set aside for emergencies

For many families, electricity is one of the biggest monthly expenses. Any reduction, especially this size, eases financial pressure and improves quality of life.

Impact on Employees and Wage Earners

For workers living paycheck to paycheck, a lighter power bill means less stress.

This reduction allows employees to:

  • Stretch their salaries further

  • Spend more on daily necessities instead of utilities

  • Reduce the need to borrow for basic expenses

When workers feel financially lighter, morale improves, and productivity often follows.

Impact on MSMEs: Lower Operating Costs, Better Sustainability

Micro, small, and medium enterprises rely heavily on electricity — from bakeries and cafés to salons, printing shops, and small manufacturing businesses.

Lower rates help MSMEs:

  • Reduce monthly overhead expenses

  • Maintain stable prices for customers

  • Reinvest savings into inventory, equipment, or hiring

For local entrepreneurs, this rate cut supports business continuity and growth.

Impact on the Local Economy

When households and businesses save on electricity, money circulates back into the local economy.

This leads to:

  • Increased consumer spending

  • Stronger small business activity

  • More job stability and potential job creation

In simple terms, a lower power rate benefits not just individual consumers, but the entire community.

A Positive Sign of System Improvements

From a consumer’s point of view, this rate reduction shows that improvements in power generation and grid coordination are producing real results.

It reassures me that:

  • Investments in the power sector are paying off

  • Supply conditions in the Visayas are improving

  • Consumers are starting to feel the benefits of these changes

Looking Ahead

This February 2026 rate reduction is more than just a monthly adjustment. It is a reminder that progress in the power sector directly affects everyday life.

As a consumer, I feel encouraged. I feel seen. And most of all, I feel hopeful that with continued improvements, more positive changes like this will follow.

A lower bill may seem simple, but for many of us, it makes a big difference. 💡
