August 2026 Electricity Rates Rise: Negros Power Residential Rate Reaches ₱14.2787/kWh

August 2026 electricity rates rise slightly for Negros Power customers, with the average residential rate increasing by ₱0.1500 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), from ₱14.1287 in July to ₱14.2787/kWh this August. In simple terms, customers will pay a little more because higher transmission and other charges more than offset the lower cost of generating electricity.

The increase is relatively small, but the adjustment reflects several components of the electricity bill, including transmission charges, WESM costs, the new Feed-in Tariff (FIT) rate, and third-quarter taxes.

Interestingly, the generation charge itself went down by ₱0.3364/kWh in August. Negros Power is also spreading the recovery of higher WESM costs over five months instead of collecting the full amount in a single billing period.

So while the overall rate increased, generation was not the main reason for the August increase. Higher transmission and other charges pushed the total rate upward.

August Electricity Rate Moves Higher

The average residential rate increased from ₱14.1287/kWh in July to ₱14.2787/kWh in August.

The ₱0.1500/kWh increase may seem small, but for households that consume hundreds of kilowatt-hours each month, even a modest per-kWh adjustment can affect the final bill.

The important point is that the increase resulted from the combined movement of several electricity-rate components.

WESM Rate Increased in August

One factor behind the electricity cost adjustment was the higher rate at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).

The WESM rate increased from ₱10.4213/kWh to ₱12.2420/kWh.

According to Negros Power, the increase was linked to higher electricity demand and the temporary unavailability of several power plants.

These conditions contributed to Yellow and Red Alerts in the Luzon and Visayas grids, which reflected tighter power-supply conditions and contributed to higher spot-market prices.

Why the Generation Charge Still Decreased

Despite the increase in WESM prices, the generation charge included in the August rate actually decreased by ₱0.3364/kWh.

This was possible because Negros Power is recovering the higher WESM costs over five months, rather than passing the entire additional cost to customers in one billing period.

The staggered recovery helps spread the impact of the higher wholesale electricity costs across several months.

For August, therefore, customers did not absorb the full effect of the higher WESM rate through the generation charge.

Transmission Charges Increased

While the generation charge went down, transmission charges moved higher.

The transmission component increased by ₱0.2593/kWh, mainly due to increases in transmission and ancillary services associated with reserve market charges.

This increase helped offset the reduction in generation costs.

It also shows why the total electricity rate can increase even when the generation component becomes lower.

FIT Rate and Third-Quarter Taxes Also Included

The August billing rate also reflects the implementation of a new Feed-in Tariff (FIT) rate of ₱0.3359/kWh.

The August rate likewise includes Real Property and Local Taxes for the third quarter.

These are among the other components contributing to the final electricity rate paid by customers.

How Much Is the August Rate?

The reported average rates for August 2026 are:

Customer CategoryAugust 2026 Rate
Residential₱14.2787/kWh
Low Voltage₱14.3216/kWh
High Voltage₱13.2520/kWh

For most households, the key figure is the ₱14.2787/kWh residential rate.

The actual amount on an individual customer’s bill will depend on electricity consumption and the applicable charges for that billing period.

What Does the ₱0.15 Increase Mean?

The difference between July and August is ₱0.15 per kWh.

For example, a household consuming 300 kWh in a month would see an increase of approximately ₱45, based solely on the ₱0.15/kWh difference.

This is only an illustration of the rate change. Actual bills will vary depending on individual consumption and the different components included in each customer’s bill.

For consumers, the important takeaway is that the increase did not come from generation costs alone.

In fact, generation charges declined.

The overall increase was largely driven by higher transmission and other charges.

Why Negros Power Is Spreading WESM Recovery

Negros Power is spreading the recovery of the higher WESM costs over five months.

Instead of collecting the entire additional cost in one billing period, the recovery is distributed over several months.

This approach reduces the immediate effect of the higher WESM costs on customers’ monthly bills.

It also means that consumers may continue to see the effects of the WESM cost recovery in subsequent billing periods.

What Customers Should Watch

For customers, the August adjustment is a reminder that electricity rates are made up of several components.

Generation is only one part of the total.

Transmission, taxes, renewable-energy charges, and other adjustments can also affect the final amount customers pay.

The August 2026 electricity rates rise is therefore best understood as the result of several changes occurring at the same time.

Bottom Line

Negros Power’s average residential rate increased by ₱0.1500/kWh, from ₱14.1287/kWh in July to ₱14.2787/kWh in August 2026.

The interesting part is that generation charges actually decreased by ₱0.3364/kWh.

The overall increase was instead driven mainly by higher transmission and other charges, while the higher WESM costs are being recovered over five months.

For households, the August increase is relatively modest. But understanding why the rate moved upward is useful because the electricity bill reflects more than the cost of generating power.

In short: generation costs went down, but higher transmission and other charges pushed the overall rate up.

That is why Negros Power customers are paying slightly more for electricity this August.
