Proposed Electricity Cost Reduction Gains Negros Power’s Full Support
BACOLOD CITY — The prospect of lower electricity bills could soon become a reality as Negros Power expressed its full support for the government’s proposed electricity cost reduction, describing it as a welcome development that could provide meaningful financial relief to consumers while making electricity more affordable for households and businesses.
The initiative gained national attention after President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., during his 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA), directed government agencies to pursue measures that would reduce electricity costs, including the removal or reduction of system loss charges. Following the announcement, Negros Power welcomed the policy direction and said it is prepared to implement the changes once the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) issue the official implementing guidelines.
Proposed Electricity Cost Reduction Offers Hope for Consumers
For many Filipino families and businesses, electricity remains one of the largest monthly expenses. Negros Power believes that the proposed electricity cost reduction represents a significant step toward easing the financial burden on consumers while supporting economic growth and improving the competitiveness of local industries.
The company emphasized that although the policy direction has already been announced by the President, distribution utilities must continue operating within the existing regulatory framework until the DOE and the ERC finalize the implementing rules and regulations.
Proposed Electricity Cost Reduction Awaits DOE and ERC Guidelines
According to Negros Power Spokesperson Engr. Leomel H. Tambanillo, the company fully supports the initiative and stands ready to comply once government agencies complete the implementation process.
“Si Negros Power, bug-os ang aton suporta sa inisyatibo nga mapanubo ang gasto sa kuryente para sa aton mga konsumedor. Sa oras nga magpagwa ang Department of Energy kag ang Energy Regulatory Commission sang implementing guidelines ukon sang mga kinahanglanon nga regulasyon para sa pagpatuman sini nga polisiya, handa kita kag sigurado nga magatuman sing bug-os.”
Tambanillo explained that while the national government has already laid out the policy direction, distribution utilities are required to await the official regulatory guidelines before implementing any changes affecting electricity charges.
He added that Negros Power remains committed to full compliance with applicable laws and regulations while continuing to deliver reliable, efficient, and consumer-focused electric service.
Negros Power Ready to Implement Proposed Electricity Cost Reduction
Negros Power reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with the National Government, the DOE, and the ERC in ensuring the smooth implementation of the proposed electricity cost reduction once all regulatory requirements have been finalized.
The company assured consumers that it will promptly implement every official directive while continuing to provide safe, reliable, and affordable electric service throughout its franchise area.
By balancing regulatory compliance with service excellence, Negros Power said it remains focused on supporting initiatives that benefit consumers while strengthening the reliability of the region’s power distribution system.
Fabulous Asian Lifestyle Insight
Electricity prices continue to be a major concern for Filipino households and businesses, as energy costs influence both daily living expenses and the cost of doing business. Any proposal affecting electricity rates is therefore closely watched by consumers, industry stakeholders, and investors alike.
The proposed reduction in electricity costs represents a policy direction that will require detailed implementing guidelines from the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) before it can take effect. As with many public policy initiatives, the eventual impact will depend on the final regulations, the implementation process, and how the changes are reflected in consumers’ monthly electricity bills.
For businesses—particularly those in manufacturing, retail, hospitality, tourism, and other energy-dependent sectors—electricity remains a significant operating expense. Likewise, for households, even modest changes in electricity rates can affect monthly budgets and spending patterns.
As the implementing guidelines are developed, consumers and businesses will be monitoring how the policy progresses and whether it delivers measurable outcomes. The coming months will provide a clearer picture of how the proposed changes may influence electricity pricing and the broader economic landscape.
