Negros Power Lowers Electricity Rates in May 2026 Amid Reduced Generation and Transmission Costs

Consumers served by Negros Electric and Power Corporation or Negros Power will experience lower electricity bills this May 2026 following a significant reduction in generation and transmission charges.

For many households already balancing daily expenses, the latest rate adjustment comes as welcome relief. The power utility announced that the average residential electricity rate for May dropped to P11.3808 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), lower by P0.8655/kWh compared to April’s rate of P12.2463/kWh

Lower Power Rates Bring Relief to Consumers

As a consumer myself, any reduction in electricity costs immediately creates an impact at home. From running appliances daily to managing business operations and online work, power expenses have become part of every family’s monthly concern. That is why this month’s adjustment from Negros Power feels significant, especially for ordinary households trying to cope with rising living costs.

According to Negros Power President and CEO Roel Castro, the company continues to work toward balancing affordability with reliable service delivery.

He emphasized that lower electricity rates are timely support for consumers who continue to face economic challenges.

The reduction in electricity prices was mainly driven by lower charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM). Rates from the spot market reportedly declined from P5.8677/kWh to P5.0432/kWh, resulting in a decrease of P0.8245/kWh during the billing period.

This development was influenced by the temporary market suspension under Executive Order No. 110, Series of 2026, which declared a state of national energy emergency due to global fuel supply disruptions and increasing oil prices.

Because of these adjustments, generation charges overall decreased by P0.5332/kWh for May 2026.

Another factor that helped reduce consumer bills was the suspension of the GEA-ALL charge by the Energy Regulatory Commission.

The ERC temporarily halted the P0.0371/kWh charge for both May and June 2026 billing periods following an advisory released on May 8. While small on paper, these adjustments collectively help ease the burden on consumers, especially families with high monthly consumption.

 Transmission Charges Also Declined

Aside from generation costs, transmission charges also went down this month.

Residential transmission rates decreased by P0.1506/kWh, from P1.3657/kWh in April to P1.2151/kWh in May.

These combined reductions ultimately resulted in the lower overall residential electricity rate now being enjoyed by Negros Power consumers.

For many residents and entrepreneurs across Negros Occidental, lower electricity rates are more than just numbers on a bill. Reduced power costs help households stretch their budgets while allowing businesses to manage operational expenses more efficiently.

In a time when fuel prices and commodity costs remain unpredictable, even modest reductions in utility expenses can provide meaningful breathing room for consumers.

Negros Power said it remains committed to maintaining reliable and stable electricity services while continuing to seek ways to keep rates manageable for the communities it serves.
