Get to Know PhilHealth GAMOT: Free Medicines for Outpatient Care
PhilHealth has launched a new program called GAMOT (Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment) that helps Filipinos get important medicines for free. This program aims to make health care easier and less expensive for everyone, especially those who need regular medicines for common illnesses.
Disclaimer: GAMOT Pharmacy Availability in Negros Occidental
Please note that the PhilHealth GAMOT program—which offers up to Php 20,000 worth of free outpatient medicines—is currently only available in the National Capital Region (NCR). As of now, pharmacies in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, are not yet accredited to dispense GAMOT medicines.
We will update this article the moment for some developments.
What is the Maximum Benefit? | GAMOT (Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment)
Each PhilHealth member can get up to Php 20,000 worth of medicines per year for free. This means you don’t have to pay for medicines covered by GAMOT until you reach this limit. The Php 20,000 resets every January 1st, so you start fresh each year.
What Medicines Are Covered in GAMOT (Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment)
The GAMOT package covers 75 types of medicines commonly used to treat:
- Infections
- Asthma and chronic lung diseases (COPD)
- Diabetes
- High cholesterol
- High blood pressure and heart problems
- Nervous system conditions
- Other important supportive treatments
These medicines help manage many outpatient conditions, which means you get treated without staying overnight in a hospital.
How to Avail of the GAMOT Benefit
-
Register in the Yakap Program: First, you need to register in PhilHealth’s health program called Yakap. You can do this via the eGovPH app, PhilHealth’s online portal, or at any PhilHealth office.
-
Get a Prescription: Visit a doctor who is accredited by PhilHealth under the Yakap program. The doctor will give you a prescription for the medicines you need.
-
Go to GAMOT Clinics or Pharmacies: Take your prescription and a valid government ID to any of the 4,300 accredited GAMOT partner clinics or pharmacies (currently, partner pharmacies are mainly in Metro Manila but are expanding).
-
No Out-of-Pocket Payment (OOP): You don’t pay anything until you reach the Php 20,000 yearly limit. If you choose branded medicines that cost more than the fixed price set by PhilHealth, you will pay the difference.
Why is GAMOT Important?
Medicines are often one of the biggest expenses for Filipino families, especially for those with chronic illnesses. GAMOT aims to reduce this burden by letting members access key medicines for free, promoting better health and preventing more serious conditions.
Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa explained, “Taking your regular medicines for conditions like hypertension or diabetes can prevent serious complications like stroke or kidney failure that lead to costly treatments.”
Where to Find GAMOT Medicines
PhilHealth already accredits thousands of clinics across the country where you can get GAMOT-covered medicines. While pharmacies offering the ACCREDITED list are mostly in Metro Manila for now, more will open soon across the Philippines.
